Using RideSafer with Tether strap:

The tether strap attaches to the vest shoulders and clips onto the vehicle's child restraint top tether anchor point. It transforms the vest into a harness similar to a conventional car seat.

This added harness-like feature reduces your child's forward and side motion during a collision. It lowers the risk of serious injuries to the torso, neck, and head.

When fitting the tether, tighten the strap to remove slack but avoid overtightening. Over-tightening raises the vest and shifts the lap belt from the child’s legs onto the hips or abdomen, which can reduce safety.

Using RideSafer with neck cushion:

Simply insert the neck cushion into the pocket at the back of the RideSafer Delight Travel Vest (GEN5). Note, this cushion is ONLY compatible with the GEN5 model.

The neck cushion supports your child's head comfortably during travel, especially helpful for sleepy kids.

Using RideSafer & tether with EATA Loop:

For cars lacking a built-in top tether anchor point, the EATA loop allows you to create a secure tether anchor. Look for a strong fixture mounted directly to the vehicle frame.

The ideal anchoring spot is often the seat mounting hardware.

Wrap the EATA strap securely around such mounting, creating a tether point where you can attach the tether strap easily.

Using these accessories properly ensures the highest level of child safety in your vehicle.

What is the tether and why do I need it?

The tether strap connects the vest shoulders to the vehicle’s top tether anchor point. This effectively turns the vest into a harness instead of only a seat belt positioning device.

The tether greatly reduces upper body movement during a crash, which helps protect your child’s torso, neck, and head. For children under 4 years, using the tether is highly recommended.

Where do I find the top tether anchor in a taxi or Uber?

Most taxis and ride-sharing vehicles come equipped with a child restraint top tether anchor point. If not, securing the vest with a lap-shoulder (3-point) seat belt alone is still safe.

The vest seems too big for my child; is this still safe?

The RideSafer vest’s main job is to position the vehicle seat belt over the strongest parts of the body. Adjustable shoulder belt guides help you get a secure, safe fit even if the vest looks oversized.

Many children, especially those with longer legs and shorter torsos, will have the vest’s top near their ears. This is normal as long as the lap belt covers their thighs and the shoulder belt crosses the collarbone.

What is the difference between RideSafer travel vest and a booster seat?

A traditional booster seat raises the child to fit the adult seat belt. RideSafer accessories and the vest instead bring the seat belt down to the child.

This method preserves a lower center of gravity and helps the vehicle seat belt absorb crash forces effectively. The vest’s belt guides keep the seat belt in the right position, even if the child moves around.

So, does the child not need a booster seat anymore?

That is correct. The RideSafer vest replaces the need for a traditional belt-positioning booster with key safety benefits:

1. The child stays lower and farther back from the front seats, reducing crash impact.
2. The seat belt fits correctly, lying low on the hips and mid-shoulder on the chest.
3. The vest’s design helps absorb and spread out crash energy across the child’s body.

Does the RideSafer travel vest have an expiration date?

Yes, vests have a 10-year expiration date from the manufacturing date.

Can the RideSafer vest be used with lap-only belts?

Yes. When used with the tether, the RideSafer Delight is approved for lap-only (2-point) seat belts found in some older vehicles or trucks.

Can I use the top tether with a lap-shoulder belt?

Indeed, it is safe and tested to use the tether in combination with a lap-shoulder (3-point) seat belt. This reduces upper body movement during crashes and benefits special needs or active children.

Can I use the RideSafer vest in the front passenger seat?

• Generally, back seats are safer, especially for children under 13 years old.
• Local laws may require children to ride only in back seats; always confirm.
• The vest is crash-tested for use with lap-shoulder or lap-only (with tether) belts in any seat.
• If used in the front seat, move the seat back fully and ensure the child is upright and outside airbag zones.
